Love Your Pet Day

February 15 2017

Did you know that Love Your Pet Day is coming up February 20th? While we of course think that our animal companions should feel loved and pampered every day, this is a great time to spoil your pet a bit! Read on as a local McHenry, IL vet offers some suggestions on how to make this day special for your faithful friend.

DIY Gifts

Offer your animal pal a fun new toy or a piece of pet furniture. You don’t have to spend a lot of money buying presents: there are many great DIY toys you can make yourself. If you have a kitty, you can make Fluffy a cute cat tent out of a tee shirt and a wire hanger. As for Fido, you can make him a rope toy by cutting up an old shirt and braiding the strips together. You can find many more great DIY toy ideas, including some for birds and pocket pets, online.

New Beds

Our animal friends are very fond of naps. Buy or make your pet a comfy new bed. If you have a bird, consider getting Polly a bigger cage, or perhaps a new perch.

Treats

If there’s one thing all pets love, it’s yummy treats. Why not give your cute buddy a special snack? Just be sure to offer only safe, suitable foods. Ask your vet for recommendations.

Veterinary Care

Our furred and feathered friends are much healthier with proper veterinary care. Take a few minutes to schedule your pet’s next veterinary appointment.

Playtime

Playtime isn’t just fun for pets: it’s actually very good for them! Playing helps keep your animal companion active, which is great for them physically, and also offers beneficial mental stimulation. Indulge your pet with a fun play session.

Photos

This is a wonderful time to get some cute pictures of your little (or not so little) buddy. Don’t be afraid to experiment with different settings and effects.

Purrs and Tail Wags

Our animal friends are happiest when they feel loved. Spend some quiet quality time with your adorable pal. If you have children, gather the family around for a cute animal movie, and offer your pet lots of cuddles and attention while it’s playing.
