Our Veterinarians

Meet the folks who make it all happen. We see big potential in every moment, & care deeply about what we do every day.

Dr. Kristin Brand

Dr. Kristin Brand

Owner, Chief Veterinarian

Dr. Kristin Brand has wanted to be a veterinarian since she was a little girl; she loves the bond between animals and their owners, and the science behind animal medicine fascinates her as well. Dr. Brand gets to live out her dream as a full-time veterinarian and the owner of Richmond Veterinary Clinic!

Dr. Brand grew up in McHenry, Illinois. She was only 12 years old when she secured her first job in the animal care field—she started working as a kennel attendant at a local animal hospital, working her way up to the technician position a few years later. She continued working at veterinary clinics through her undergraduate studies at Lake Forest College before going to veterinary school at Ross University in the Caribbean. While interning here at Richmond Veterinary Clinic in 2007, Dr. Brand was invited to work full-time after graduation, and she gladly accepted.

As a vet, Dr. Brand loves solving the puzzle behind a pet’s ailment. Acupuncture is of particular interest to her—she says that many animals run gleefully into the acupuncture room because they know it makes them feel better!

Dr. Brand enjoys reading, canoeing, and spending time with her family. She was active in softball during college, when her Lake Forest team was the NCAA runner-up. Dr. Brand also enjoys snowboarding and even qualified for the X-Games in college!

Dr. Steve Fox

Dr. Steve Fox

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Steve Fox’s parents were always math- and science-oriented—his mother worked as a registered nurse; his father, a mechanical engineer—and they passed their passions and strong work ethic down to their son. Dr. Fox always knew that a career in the medical world would suit him well. When he took an animal health course in college, he knew that he’d found his calling!

Dr. Fox is from northwestern Chicago, and earned his undergraduate degree in zoology with minors in chemistry and environmental studies from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He then worked and volunteered in two separate veterinary clinics before being accepted into the veterinary program at the University of Illinois.

After earning his Doctorate, Dr. Fox entered the emergency medicine field in 2008. He worked as an emergency and critical-care veterinarian for eight years, eventually becoming the medical director and head of the emergency department at another hospital. Now, Dr. Fox is an Associate Veterinarian with the Richmond Veterinary Clinic team, where he particularly enjoys performing surgical procedures and working with advanced diagnostics. Most of all, he loves educating his clientele so that they can make well-informed decisions for their beloved pets.

When he’s not at work, Dr. Fox can be found exercising, listening to music, and spending time with his family and friends. He and his wife, Jamie, have two young children: three-year-old Olivia and baby Jacob. The family shares their home with Marley, a beagle/dachshund mix who loves playing fetch, as well as a cat named Kiki Meow.

Dr. Nadine Govic

Dr. Nadine Govic

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Nadine Govic has felt an innate connection with the earth’s creatures for as long as she can remember. For her, becoming a veterinary professional was never a conscious decision—it was simply what came naturally. Dr. Govic feels fortunate and proud to live her dream every day as an Associate Veterinarian here at Richmond Veterinary Clinic!

Dr. Govic grew up in Brookfield, Illinois and completed her undergraduate work at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. Next, she earned her veterinary degree from the University of Illinois’ College of Veterinary Medicine at Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Govic launched her career as a general practitioner in a small-animal and exotics hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, and also served in emergency medicine and worked for the local wildlife park and museum. A few years later, she decided to move back to Illinois to be closer to family—when Dr. Govic heard about an open position here at Richmond Veterinary Clinic, she jumped at her chance! She’s been tending to the needs of the area’s pets and animal owners ever since.

Surgical work and acupuncture therapy are two of Dr. Govic’s special interests within veterinary medicine; she’s even pursued additional training in orthopedic surgery and Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine (TCVM). She also loves that no two days are ever quite the same—Dr. Govic loves learning new things regularly, even though she’s been practicing for more than 25 years! Most of all, she enjoys meeting pets and owners on a daily basis, and getting to watch entire families grow up over the years.

Dr. Govic lives in Woodstock with her girlfriend Kathie and Kathie’s children, Tanner and Sarah. They share their home with several pets: three loveable cats named Dory, Hal, and Louie; a silly Boston Terrier named Mojo; and a Terrier puppy named Suki who feels that the world revolves around her.

When she isn’t caring for pets here at the clinic or doting on her own companions at home, Dr. Govic enjoys fishing for bass and musky, camping and gardening, catching a good movie, and riding her motorcycle on which she has traveled to most places within the United States and even to Canada!
