Holiday Gifts for Kitties

December 1 2016

As the holidays approach, many of us are trying to find perfect gifts for our friends and family members. Many kitties often find themselves with cute new toys during the holiday season. While fun new playthings will always make great presents for Fluffy, there are actually quite a few other things you can get your feline friend. Read on as a local McHenry, IL vet discusses holiday gifts for Fluffy.

Beds

Did you know that kitties can sleep up to 20 hours a day? Fluffy certainly does enjoy her beauty rest! Pick up a new bed for your drowsy pet. You can also make your cat a cute napping spot by putting pillows or soft blankets into a hard-shell suitcase, wicker basket, or even a plain box.

Boxes

Speaking of boxes, they actually rank pretty high on the list of Fluffy’s favorite things. When everyone has finished opening their gifts, give your cat a few of the empty boxes to play in. You can even make your furry overlord a cute box castle!

Furniture

Cat furniture is very beneficial for our feline companions. Kitty towers are great, because they encourage healthy activities like climbing and jumping. They also offer your furball a great manicure station, and give her a perfect vantage point from which she can survey her kingdom. Pet tents, tipis, and condos are also wonderful options. If you’re trying to save money, go the DIY route and make Fluffy’s things. You may be surprised at how many great ideas you can find online!

Plants

Does your furry pal like catnip? If so, your feline pal may really enjoy a little pot of fresh catnip. Cat grass is also a good choice. You can find more ideas for pet-safe plants online at the ASPCA website.

Treats

Another way to pamper your furball during the holidays is to give her a special treat. Cooked, plain chicken, fish, or meat is a good option. While dairy products aren’t good for cats, you can also offer Fluffy some kitty milk, which is sold in many pet stores and supermarkets. Just be sure to only offer your four-legged buddy things that you know are safe for her. Ask your vet for more information.
