Did you know that a few organizations are dedicated to cat breeds? Interestingly, they vary on how many breeds they recognize. The International Cat Association recognizes 71, while The Cat Fanciers Association (CFA) only allows 44. They’re all pretty darn adorable! In this article, a local vet introduces a few you may not know.
Highlander
The Highlander first clawed her way into our hearts back in 2004. She’s a cross between the Desert Lynx and the Jungle Curl. These cute kitties are lovable, smart, cuddly, and frisky. Unlike most of our feline pals, they love water. They’re also really talented little gymnasts!
Lykoi
The Lykoi is a small cat that’s making big waves. Because of their appearance, these sweet little kitties are known as the werewolf cat. You won’t turn into a werewolf if Fluffy bites you, so don’t worry!
Aphrodite
Named after the goddess of love, the Aphrodite is a large kitty that also has a very big heart! These sweet cats have thick, soft coats, and very long back legs. They take about 3 years to reach their adult size, so they tend to grow more slowly than most of our feline pals.
Cheetoh Cat
The Cheetoh cat is a mix between the Ocicat and the Bengal, two exotic breeds. Like many exotic cat breeds, they have pretty patterned coats, and are quite the little chatterboxes!
Tennessee Rex
On this list, the Tennessee Rex is the only kitty that is always a ginger. These fluffy redheads are fairly large. They’re also curly! Their exact lineage remains unknown, since the breed traces back to a Tennessee stray that gave birth to some unique looking kittens.
Ojos Azules
Since 1984, the Ojos Azules has been around, but they are still quite rare. These cats can take on a variety of colors, but they always have deep blue eyes. In fact, the name Ojos Azules means ‘blue eyes’ in Spanish!
Toybob
As the name implies, the Toybob is an itty bitty kitty. They usually don’t grow any larger than a 3 to 6 month old kitten. Unlike most toy breeds, they aren’t a downsized version of a larger breed, but are unique unto themselves. These cute felines are really lovable, and tend to be great lapcats and climbers.
