May is National Pet Month! We know, every month is National Pet Month for some of you. That’s fine! We really don’t think there needs to be much of a reason to pamper your furry pal, and show them some extra TLC. Here, a Fox Lake, IL vet suggests some great ways to celebrate.
Photos
National Pet Month can make for some pretty cute photo challenges. Snap some cute new pics of your furry buddy!
Treats
Treats are always a great way to brighten up your pet’s day and make them feel special. Why not make something special for your four-legged friend? You’ll find some great recipes online. Just be sure to stick with safe, suitable ingredients.
Toys
One thing we love about pets is the fact that they’re so playful! Try to play with your furry pal every day. This will benefit them both mentally and physically. Plus, it will be fun for you, too! You may also want to try your hand at making homemade toys. Turn an old tee shirt into a rope toy for Fido, or make Fluffy a bed out of an old sweater.
New Digs
Could your pet use a new bed? Is Fluffy’s cat tower worn out? This is a great time to replace some basic supplies. If you have a yard for Fido to chase squirrels in, consider giving it a pupgrade. Add doggy luxuries like a kiddie pool, outdoor toys, or even a doghouse!
Veterinary Appointment
We know, most of our patients would vote for toys and treats instead of a doctor’s appointment. (To be fair, we probably would too.) However, your furry buddy will look and feel much better with proper care. If your animal companion is overdue, let this be a reminder to make an appointment. Our comprehensive veterinary services are designed to keep your pet healthy and happy all year round.
Help Other Animals
National Pet Month is also a good reminder of the millions of animals out there who don’t have loving homes. Consider donating money or supplies to a local animal shelter or charity. If you have the time, you may even want to consider volunteering or fostering.
Quality Time
Pets are wonderful reminders of the importance of slowing down and enjoying life’s little moments. Spend time with your pet every day. Sometimes those quiet moments really are the best!
