Holiday Gifts for Pets

December 1 2018

Have you finished your holiday shopping yet? It isn’t always easy to pick out the right things for people. We can’t help with choosing presents for your mother-in-law, but we can offer some suggestions for what to get your pet. Read on as a McHenry, IL vet lists some great holiday gifts for your furred or feathered friend.

Dogs

A new bed is a great choice for Fido. If you have a senior dog or a large breed, consider getting him an orthopedic bed. Toys are a good choice for younger dogs. Get Fido some puzzle toys, or even a mechanical ball launcher. If your canine buddy is in his golden years, he may appreciate pet ramps or stairs, a thermal pet blanket, or raised doggy dishes. If your pooch has a yard to play in, consider getting him a doghouse to hang out in outdoors. For more ideas on what your dog might enjoy, check out our article on 6 Things Fido Wants for the Holidays.

Cats

If there’s one thing cats are good at—besides napping—it’s getting us to spoil them. Fluffy isn’t hard to please, however. Comfy beds and new toys are both great gifts for your feline pal, and will definitely get that little motor going. You can also offer your furball a small pot of catnip, or perhaps some kitty furniture, like a pet tent or cat tower. Your kitty will also appreciate getting some of those empty boxes once everyone has finished opening their presents!

Pocket Pets

Smaller pets, like bunnies, Guinea pigs, gerbils, and hamsters, are all very adorable. These little guys all have open-rooted teeth, so they have to chew a lot. Chew toys are always excellent choices. Many wood, wicker, and cardboard items are fine, as long as they aren’t coated in decorative substances like glitter or paint. You’ll also want to avoid anything with sharp edges or small parts. Other good gift ideas include tunnels and mazes, larger habitats, or, for littler pets, solid exercise wheels.

Birds

A bigger cage would be a great gift for Polly! Your feathered buddy does spend the majority of her time in her cage, so it’s important to make sure she’s comfortable in it. You can also brighten up your winged friend’s day with some fun new toys, or perhaps some new perches.
