Hug Your Cat Day

June 1 2018

Do you have a kitty? If so, put a paw print on your calendar for June 4th : it’s Hug Your Cat Day! While we think that kitties should be hugged every day, this is a great time to pamper your feline buddy a bit. Read on as a McHenry, IL vet discusses hugging cats.

The Benefits of Hugging Cats

Did you know that hugging cats is good for you? Fluffy’s soothing purrs can be very comforting, which can be very helpful for people dealing with stress, anxiety, grief, or depression, or even just having a bad day. Your furry pal’s little motor can also make a great sleep aid! Kitty purrs even have some healing properties. The frequencies our feline friends purr at have been shown to promote tissue growth. Of course, you don’t really need to have a reason to hug your cat. Kitty snuggles are one of the best things in life, as far as we are concerned!

Kitty Hug Petiquette

Fluffy has laid down some very clear rules about what is and is not acceptable. First, it’s always up to your feline buddy to decide when it’s cuddle time. Some furballs are very affectionate, and want to snuggle 24/7. Others prefer to be admired from a distance. Never force attention on your cat. When Fluffy decides that your allotted hug time is up, she may decide to get down or walk away. Just let her go. No good will ever come of trying to force attention on a kitty!

Kitties That Need Hugs

There are far too many cute cats in shelters, just waiting for someone to love them, hug them, and, more importantly, give them forever homes. If you are ready to adopt a new kitty, please consider getting Fluffy from a shelter. Don’t overlook older cats – check out our article on 7 Reasons To Adopt A Senior Pet to learn why they can make wonderful companions. If adopting isn’t right for you just now, there are some other great ways you can help promote good animal welfare. Consider donating money or supplies to a local shelter, or even volunteering. Fostering may also be a good option, though it isn’t for everyone. If nothing else, spread the word by sharing posts about local adoptable cats on social media. When it comes to helping animals, every little bit counts!
