Autumn is already upon us. As the seasons change, many people have a few extra seasonal chores and activities to do. Our canine pals also have a couple of items on the agenda for the coming weeks. Here, a Fox Lake, IL vet lists some things Fido has on his doggy calendar.
Long Walks
Crisp autumn days and beautiful foliage are absolutely perfect dog-walking weather. Take Fido to a beautiful park, or explore a new trail with him. This is a great way for you to spend some quality time with your furry best friend, and soak up that gorgeous weather and scenery.
Photo Shoot
Those vivid fall colors make for really great pet photos. Snap a few picks of Fido! You can never have too many photos of your pup frolicking in leaves, sitting next to pumpkins, or just being his adorable self.
Fashion Show
Some dogs need extra protection against the cold. If Fido has thin fur, he’ll probably need to wear a sweater or jacket. As winter approaches, it’s important to get your furry friend ready for the cold weather ahead. Menu Change
If your four-legged friend is on the thin side, spends a lot of time outdoors, or is a puppy or nursing mama, you might need to give him bigger portions when it’s cold. (We suspect he won’t mind.) Supplements can also be beneficial, particularly for senior dogs and pups those with bone/joint issues. Ask your vet for specific advice. To ensure Fido is in his best health this fall and beyond, consider our vet wellness and pet vaccinations services available at our clinic.
Salon Trip
Fido’s coat helps protect him from the cold, so you want to make sure it’s clean and soft. Give your canine buddy a good bath before it gets chilly. Or, book him an appointment at the salon.
Seasonal Treats
As the leaves change, stores will fill with pumpkin-flavored everything. Dogs can also enjoy a yummy seasonal treat. Here’s an easy one: mix pureed pumpkin with natural peanut butter, an egg, and some whole-wheat flour. Roll the batter out, and divide into small portions. Cook at 350 for 20 to 35 minutes. (The longer you cook them, the crunchier they get.) Have Fido do a cute trick for his snack!
Cuddles
If dreary fall days are good for anything, it’s getting cozy and enjoying some good books or movies. Enjoy a lazy day with your furry pal. Fido makes a great cuddle buddy!
